Competitions

Texas Thespians offers a wide range of competitions for students to showcase their skills in performance and technical theatre. From Individual Events (Thespys) to the Short Play Contest, Improv Challenges, and Team Challenges, there’s a stage for every talent to shine at the state and national level.

​General Competition Information

National Qualifying Events

Picture
Information for all Solo, Duet, and Group events.
This includes Acting and Musical Thespys.

Troupes can only enter 15 "live" National Qualifying Thespy entries at State Festival. Short Film and Playwriting do not count in the 15 total allowed. 

Technical Thespys

Picture
Information for the following National Events:
Costume Construction, Costume Design, Makeup Design, Lighting Design, Sound Design, Marketing Design, Scenic Design, Prop Design, Short Film,Playwriting, and
​Stage Management.

Texas Only Events

Information on Dramatic Design, NexGen works, Improv Challenge, Tech Challenge, Audio Challenge, and all

Virtual Events

Texas Thespians will offer virtual competitions starting November 2025 - January 2026
Delegates who do not Qualify for Nationals at a Festival may resubmit their Thespy for evaluation. Delegates may also submit a second Thespy event using the virtual option.
