Texas Thespians Grant Criteria and Eligibility

Texas Thespians offers grants for first-time attending Thespian Troupes, Individual Thespians, or Thespian Teachers.

​Each event has its own grant awarded on the basis of merit and need.

Eligibility - Send a JH/HS Troupe
  • The application must be submitted by a Thespian Troupe Director or Future Thespian Director.
  • The applying troupe must have never previously attended the Texas Thespian event.
  • The applying troupe will receive a one-time grant to cover the basic registration fees for troupe members.
  • The total grant will cover only registration fees and hotel rooms up to and will not exceed $3,000.
  • Registration fees do NOT include scholarship applications or competition fees.
  • State Festival Grants include funding for housing.
  • Junior Grants do not include housing.
  • This grant’s adjudication committee will make their selections and recipients will be notified of their grant award.
​​Grant Criteria- Send a JH/HS Troupe
  1. The troupe applying has never attended a Texas Thespian Event in the past.
  2. The troupe applying must be able to demonstrate financial barriers.
​Application Requirements - Send a JH/HS Troupe
  • Upload a single-page document that shares the financial barriers of your Troupe as well as a detailed statement on the "Benefits of my Troupe attending" a Texas Thespians event.
Example: What are the financial barriers faced by your Thespian troupe? The number of students who qualify for a free or reduced-price lunch program, information about your program, troupe budget, or any other facts or figures that demonstrate financial barriers.
  • ​Please upload a single-page document that outlines the overall activities of your Troupe for the year. This can include Thespian Troupe Activities, Productions, Community Service, Classwork, etc.
  • Please list the official names of those who will be in attendance. Names on the application must match names entered into registration.

Statement of Support from Campus Administration
  • SUPERIOR: The applicant shows complete support from their campus administration.
  • EXCELLENT: The applicant shows mostly complete support from their campus administration.
  • GOOD: The applicant shows some complete support from their campus administration.
  • FAIR: The applicant shows little to no complete support from their campus administration.
Evidence of Financial Burdens
  • SUPERIOR: The applicant shows extreme financial barriers.
  • EXCELLENT: The applicant shows moderate financial barriers.
  • GOOD: The applicant shows some financial barriers.
  • FAIR: The applicant shows little to no financial barriers.
Evidence of Troupe Activities 
  • SUPERIOR: The applicant shows heavy involvement in troupe activities. 
  • EXCELLENT: The applicant shows moderate involvement in troupe activities.
  • GOOD: The applicant shows some involvement in troupe activities.
  • FAIR: The applicant shows little to no involvement in troupe activities.
Benefits of Attending
  • SUPERIOR: The applicant clearly describes the benefits of attending festival. 
  • EXCELLENT: The applicant moderately describes the benefits of attending festival. 
  • GOOD: The applicant loosely describes the benefits of attending festival. 
  • FAIR: The applicant does not describe the benefits of attending festival. 
Eligibility - Send a Thespian/Teacher
  • The application must be submitted by a Thespian Troupe Director or Future Thespian Director.
  • The applying thespian/teacher will receive a one-time grant to cover the basic registration fee only. 
  • Registration fees do NOT include scholarship applications or competition fees.​
  • This grant’s adjudication committee will make their selections and recipients will be notified of their grant award.
Grant Criteria- Send a Thespian/Teacher
  • The thespian/teacher applying must be able to demonstrate financial barriers.
  • Letter of support from your administrator to participate in Texas Thespians events.
Application Requirements - Teacher
  1. Please upload your Administrator statement of support on official school letterhead that includes Administrative support for attending a Texas Thespians event.
  2. Please upload a single-page document that shares the financial barriers as well as a detailed statement on the "benefits of attending" a Texas Thespians event.
Example: What are the individual's financial barriers and how will this Grant benefit their theatrical goals? This is your chance to justify needs as it pertains to the Send a Teacher Grant.
  1. Please upload a single-page document that outlines the applicant's troupe involvement (resume) and includes a headshot.
  • Section 1: Personal Information – Includes your contact info, and a small headshot.
  • Section 2: Credits – The shows or programs you have created on your campus/district.
  • Section 3: Education & Training – Includes schools attended, workshops, and other classes you've taught.
  • Section 4: Educational Accomplishment– Awards, Nominations, Student successes of merit.
Application Requirements - Thespians
  1. Please upload your Administrator statement of support on official school letterhead that includes Administrative support for attending a Texas Thespians event.
  2. Please upload a single-page document that shares the financial barriers of the individual as well as a detailed statement on the "benefits of attending" a Texas Thespians event.
​Example: What are the individual's financial barriers and how will this Grant benefit their theatrical goals?  This is your chance to justify needs as it pertains to the Send a Thespian Grant.
  1. Please upload a single-page document that outlines the applicant's troupe involvement (resume) and includes a headshot.
 
  • Section 1: Personal Information – Includes your contact info, and a small headshot.
  • Section 2: Credits – This shows all your experience in Theatre.
  • Section 3: Education & Training – Includes schools, workshops, and other classes you've attended (including private coaching).
  • Section 4: Special Skills – Special skills are extremely important! Sometimes they'll be the only reason you get called in for an audition!
